Winnipeg, can we do this? I think we can…

Winnipeg, let’s take a moment to consider the words of Margaret Mead:

Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has.

Winnipeg Can Change The World

Right now, the last few weeks of December in 2012, is our opportunity to come together as a community to change the world. I believe literally.

In recent times, Winnipeg has been featured in the international news scene for being the kindest, most generous and friendliest city in the country, if not the world. The eyes of people all around the world are upon us, and I think we can inspire them in a massive way. And, the timing couldn’t be more relevant.

Finding Opportunity in Adversity

Napoleon Hill said:

Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.

Screen Shot 2012-12-13 at 11.05.34 PMThis morning, the United Way of Winnipeg posted a notice on their website of such an adversity. They indicated that “projections show that they are falling approximately $300,000 short of their fundraising goal.” When I heard about this, my first thought was, “how can I help?” followed by “I don’t have $300,000!

I also realized that I don’t have an idea big enough to raise $300,000 in 2 weeks.

However, I have a whole boatload of confidence that when a community of people come together, miracles can happen.

Are you ready to make a miracle happen?

The work that the United Way does positively impacts 1 in 3 Winnipeggers. 1 in 3. In simpler terms, when you have lunch with 2 of your friends, 1 of them lives the quality of life that they do because the United Way made it possible.

What that also means is that if the other 2 gave $1.50 to the United Way, we’d have this whole problem solved. Now, I’m a good marketer – it’s what I do for a living – but I don’t think I can get this message in front of 400,000 people in the next 2 weeks. (Not well enough that they’ll all donate $1.50.) But, if:

  1. A whole bunch of us work together to get the message out (ie: call your mom & dad, share it Facebook or Twitter, upload a funny video to YouTube), and
  2. Those of us who do hear the message pick up a bit of slack (ie: donate $2, or $10, or $25, or if you don’t mind brown-bagging your lunch for a week or so, even $100)

then I think we’ll get this problem solved.

Not only can we solve the problem, we can inspire the rest of the world to get out there and do something big as well.

I truly believe that:

“There is a spark of idealism within every human being which can be fanned into flame and will bring forth extraordinary results.” – Louis Brandeis

Today, and for the next few weeks, we can be the ones to fan the flame in all those we see, and see some extraordinary results. Are you in?

What Now?

This is how we do it:

  1. Donate here:
  2. Take the reigns. I don’t have the answers, hopefully you’re smarter than me… if you have an idea, share it below or just go ahead and take action! (You don’t need my permission, and I sure as heck didn’t get anyone’s permission before doing this)
  3. Pray (then work) for miracles.

I’ll be posting more ideas as they come to me, so please reach out if there’s anything  you think we can do together to make this happen!
